For many years, web surfers have been using Pinterest.com as a platform for showcasing their creative and unique content. But an underbelly of the site is the issue of potentially pinning NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content, including porn videos and images. These types of images are available on the pinboard-style website, often without filters or guidelines to denote that they might not be suitable for all viewers.
To address this problem, Pinterest recently changed their guidelines on what type of content can be posted. They now prohibit sexually explicit items or videos which include nudity and pornographic materials, except in artistic or educational contexts that aren’t deemed graphic or offensive. Additionally, any material related to illegal drugs, violence, explosions or other inappropriate topics are prohibited from being pinned.
Despite these changes, some users still post pornographic material on the site. With plenty of tools inside the system designed to make it easy to share anything with friends (including video embeds from popular sites), some will try to bypass the rules and post risky material anyway. For example, some Pinners might try to pose as art connoisseurs by posting pictures with artistic angles meant to display nudity in a tasteful manner. However these posts may break Pinterest’s strict guidelines if they contain explicit imagery deemed too risqué even for this image sharing platform.
Many of those who have no interest in viewing such racy material can rest assured though; there are a few open source solutions that help users keep off hardcore pornography websites and prevent them from stumbling onto pins depicting sexually explicit content while using Pinterest’s social media platform – which includes automated processes that flag images or videos flagged as potentially offensive by members of the community – thus users can browse freely without fear of finding mature materials unexpectedly appearing on their feed while scrolling through photos or watching embedded clips they never intended to view in the first place; eliminating unwanted exposure to objectionable content that could impact their browsing experience negatively and destine their session irretrievably away from features designed to engage already interested customers more successfully (i.e, product recommendations)
